Plant Hug
October 2022
A sustainable and playful branding exploration of everyday objects.
Plant Hug is an entirely sustainable product, sourced from hemp and made from recyclable materials. The packaging sleeve is made from plantable seed paper, which encourages people to garden and grow native plants in their backyard. The packaging of Plant Hug is designed to slot onto the end of gardening tools, and having the string enclosed in the hexagonal box stops the string from getting tangled whilst gardening.
The Plant Hug logo was designed to reflect the organic shapes of plants. The letterforms were hand-drawn and wrap around each other, similar to vine-like plants, which often require garden string to help them grow. Playful illustrations of plants and vegetables detail which crops benefit from the assistance of garden string, to match the energy of the logo design. To reflect the mindful experience of gardening, Plant Hug uses minimal and nature-inspired colours.
This university project originated as a group project, and we were then tasked with developing the brand individually. As a group, we came up with the brand strategy, messaging, and name. Individually, I developed the original concept based on feedback and my own personal style to create Plant Hug. All the design elements, including the logo, colour, typography, packaging, and illustrations, were done solely by me.
